Let’s get things started with a quick timeline of how Maui became part of our family.
Just like most people in the world, our family was under a “Stay at Home” order starting in late March 2020 and running through the month of April. With the entire family at home with very little to do, the discussion started about possibly adding a dog to our family. Our neighbors had talked about a Great Pyrenees they had in the past which piqued my interest.
After doing hours and hours of research, we decided a Great Pyrenees could be for us. After all, I have always been a big dog kind of person. I must admit though that after my last dog passed away, I declared we wouldn’t have another dog for a long time. Funny how times and circumstances change.
On Monday, April 13th we submitted an application with the Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta. We were quickly informed that there was an influx of applicants and it would be some time before they were able to process our application and longer before they would find a potential match for our family. As this time passed, we kept our eyes out for other potential fits.

Three Paws Animal Rescue – Facebook
On Tuesday, April 21, 2020 we decided to turn in an application with Three Paws Rescue in the Athens/Atlanta, GA area for a mixed breed named Sandy. When the application finished, it took me to their website where I surfed around and ended up on their Facebook page. The most recent post was a couple hours earlier saying “Sneak peek: 6 month old Great Pyrenees puppies coming to Three Paws… Fosters needed!”
I immediately sent a Facebook message indicating the application I had just turned in and inquiring about the foster or foster to adopt program with these puppies since I potentially had a home for both. I quickly received a phone call back and a couple hours later, the two puppies were in our driveway.
That seemingly long process turned into a whirlwind of a day ending with two beautiful Great Pyrenees puppies, Rock and Speck, playing in our front yard.
This is only the start of this story so check back for continued updates!
